"You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death to you." - C.S. Lewis
In 2001 over 200-million Christians worldwide were persecuted because of their faith in Christ. That's far more than at any other time in history (including 70 - 400 A.D.). We who live in North America and Western Europe are blessed with the freedoms that we have. However, I can't help but be ashamed at how little we cherish that freedom. Literally millions of our brothers and sisters in Christ have been imprisoned (or worse) for simply having a Bible. Millions have faced loaded firearms handled by evil men promising to spare their life if only they renounce Christ. And millions have died by those evil men because they would not renounce Him. Many have had their children tortured and killed in front of them because they; would not, should not, and could not deny Christ.
The above quote from Lewis makes me wonder about myself. What do I believe? If faced with real persecution what would I do? Would I stand firm for the truth? Would I remain faithful to my Lord?
We may never face the same kind of persecution as others throughout the world do, but we can and we should stand firm through what we do face.
Pray for your siblings worldwide in Christ who endure the unspeakable in service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
May we also take up our cross daily and follow Him (Luke 9:23).
...Grace be with you (Col. 4:18),
-Brent
